Saudi ‘Sleeping Prince’ Dies After 20 Years in Coma

Prince Alwaleed bin Khaled bin Talal, widely known as the “Sleeping Prince,” has passed away after spending nearly two decades in a coma caused by a traffic accident in London in 2005.
His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, announced the news, stating that funeral prayers will be held on Sunday at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh, following the Asr prayer.
Prince Alwaleed fell into a deep coma during his university studies in the United Kingdom and remained under constant medical care for 19 years. Although there were brief episodes of slight movement that gave fleeting hope, he never regained full consciousness.
Throughout the years, Prince Khaled stood firm in his decision not to withdraw life support, saying he believed “life and death are in the hands of God.”
The young royal’s condition drew widespread sympathy across Saudi Arabia and the wider Arab world, as millions followed his story closely, hoping for a miracle.
His passing on Saturday brings a deeply emotional chapter to a close—one that touched hearts across generations.
