Ilkay Gündoğan has reaffirmed his commitment to Manchester City, declaring he is “very happy” at the club and eager to continue playing at the highest level for years to come.

The 34-year-old German midfielder, who was named Player of the Match in City’s Club World Cup victory on Sunday, addressed recent transfer speculation linking him with a potential move to Galatasaray. Despite manager Pep Guardiola’s openness to reducing his squad size this season, Gündoğan made it clear he has no intentions of departing anytime soon.

“I have one more year left on my contract and I’m very happy here,” he told reporters after the match. “I think everybody knows that. I am committed to that competition and enjoying my football.”

The veteran midfielder, who was ever-present last season, credited his fitness and professionalism for extending his top-level career. “I still believe I have several years in me at the highest level by taking good care of myself. I’ve proven last season where I didn’t miss a game. I’m available, I’m fit – I want to play at the highest level for much longer.”

When asked about Gündoğan’s future, Guardiola offered a neutral stance: “No news is good news. So I don’t know anything, I didn’t speak with him.” He acknowledged, however, the challenges of managing an oversized squad, adding, “We have – right now – a long squad, too many players, so we cannot go with 26 or 27 players this season.”
