AEDC Technician Electrocuted in Abuja, Company Pledges Safety Reforms

A staff member of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), Mustapha Isa, tragically lost his life while attempting to fix an electrical fault in the Mabushi area of Abuja.
The fatal incident occurred around 5:50 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, when Isa was working atop an electric pole and was suddenly electrocuted. He fell from the pole, sustaining a severe head injury that proved fatal.
According to reports, Isa had been operating from AEDC’s Mabushi office when the accident occurred. He was immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Gwarinpa, but was sadly declared dead on arrival. His remains were later transferred to the Federal Medical Centre in Jabi for a formal autopsy.
The management of AEDC responded swiftly to the incident, describing it as “a deeply regrettable tragedy.”
In their statement, they extended heartfelt condolences to Isa’s family and colleagues. The company also pledged to strengthen its safety measures and enhance training procedures for its technical staff to avoid a recurrence of such incidents.
This tragedy has reignited criticism over AEDC’s handling of worker safety. The company has previously come under fire for alleged lapses in safety protocols and providing insufficient protective equipment to field workers.
