Fake News Alert: Zamfara Debunks Claims of Sharia Trial for Christian Convert

The Zamfara State Government has categorically denied reports claiming a Christian convert, Zainab Muhamadu, is facing trial in a Sharia Court for switching religions.
In a statement by Governor Dauda Lawal’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the government described the viral report as baseless and designed to generate traffic on social media.
“There is no such case before any Sharia Court in Zamfara State,” the statement affirmed. It described the circulating narrative as the work of “enemies of peace,” intent on fostering tension where none exists.
The false report, attributed to an online platform infamous for spreading unverified news, was exposed as a deliberate attempt to disrupt peace.
Idris revealed that the government had verified the claims through relevant authorities and security agencies, concluding they were fabricated by Sahara Reporters.
“The question is, where does this perilous and divisive narrative originate? What are its underlying motives? What do those promoting this story hope to accomplish in the long run?” the statement pondered.
Adding clarity, the spokesperson disclosed that the photograph accompanying the fake report belonged to a woman named Aalia from Texas, USA, who has no connection to Nigeria. Idris criticized media platforms for prioritizing likes and shares over verified reporting, urging the public to reject such “yellow journalism.”
The government has engaged security agencies to identify the source of the misinformation and prosecute those responsible. “To ensure accuracy, the Grand Khadi of the Zamfara Sharia Court of Appeal confirmed there has never been such a case in any Sharia Court in Zamfara State,” Idris stated.
The government urged all Nigerians to maintain peace and remain vigilant against divisive narratives that threaten national harmony.
