“Any journey not guided by the Qur’an leads to confusion and destruction” — Shaykh Sanusi Lafiagi

The grand finale of the Lagos State Qur’an Competition took place today at the University of Lagos, drawing scholars, students, and Islamic leaders to celebrate the divine wisdom of the Qur’an.
Themed “The Unfailing Compass,” the event featured a thought-provoking address by Shaykh Sanusi Lafiagi, who emphasized the Qur’an’s role as a complete guide for life.
In his speech, Shaykh Lafiagi challenged the misconception that the Qur’an’s benefits are purely ritualistic or limited to physical healing. Instead, he underscored its deeper significance, describing it as a spiritual, economic, moral, social, and political roadmap for humanity.
“Many believe the Qur’an is merely something to be written, dissolved in water, and consumed for healing. But the true shifa (cure) of the Qur’an is much greater—it provides guidance for every aspect of life,” he stated.
Drawing from Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 2, Shaykh Lafiagi explained that the Qur’an serves as a compass for those seeking righteousness and divine guidance.
“If you want to find the right path in life, you must turn to the Qur’an. Any journey not guided by it leads to confusion and destruction,” he cautioned.
He further referenced Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 177, which provides a comprehensive definition of righteousness, highlighting faith, prayer, charity, and moral integrity as fundamental principles of a truly righteous life.
Beyond personal spirituality, Shaykh Lafiagi emphasized the Qur’an’s teachings as a foundation for societal stability, offering solutions to modern-day economic, social, and political challenges.
“The Qur’an defines morality in multiple dimensions—spiritually, socially, economically, and politically. It offers clear principles for justice, governance, and community welfare,” he noted.
The event concluded with the recognition of outstanding participants in the Qur’an recitation competition, reinforcing the importance of Qur’anic literacy in shaping future generations.
With Shaykh Lafiagi’s profound insights, the Lagos State Qur’an Competition 2025 reaffirmed the Qur’an’s role as an unfailing compass—a divine guide that remains relevant for all aspects of life.
