A shocking human-egg harvesting syndicate has been uncovered in Georgia, a former Soviet republic, where over 100 women were reportedly held captive and subjected to forced egg extraction.
The sinister operation came to light after a Thailand-based NGO managed to secure the release of three Thai women, as reported by the Bangkok Post. However, several others remain trapped, unable to “pay” for their release from what has been described as a human egg farm.
Lured in by deceptive Facebook job advertisements, victims were promised R219,558 to R324,552 for working as surrogates for Georgian couples struggling with infertility. Upon arrival, the criminal group confiscated their passports and visas, forcing them into four massive estates where approximately 100 other women were already held.
Realizing they had fallen into a terrifying scam, the victims soon found themselves subjected to monthly forced egg extractions. One survivor described the ordeal: “The women would be injected to get treatment, anesthetized, and their eggs would be extracted with a machine. After we got this information and it was not the same as the advertisement, we got scared, we tried to contact people back home.”
Investigations suggest that the harvested eggs were smuggled to other countries for illegal in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures. The inhumane operation highlights the dark underbelly of human trafficking, raising urgent calls for international intervention and stricter regulations against such exploitative practices.
