WHO facilitates medical evacuations amid Israeli attacks on Gaza

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Wednesday the successful evacuation of 10 patients from Gaza to Jordan and the United States for specialized medical care.
“WHO and partners supported medical evacuation of four patients and five companions to Jordan, and six children patients and five companions to the USA where they will receive specialized health care,” WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus shared on X.
Despite these efforts, Tedros highlighted the urgent need for expanded medical support, noting that over 12,000 people in Gaza are still awaiting evacuation.
He called on Israel to “increase the approval rate for medical evacuations; expedite the process of approvals for medical evacuations; allow all possible corridors and border crossings to be used for safe medical evacuations.”
The crisis in Gaza remains dire, with the Israeli military’s ongoing offensive resulting in almost 46,000 deaths, predominantly women and children, since October 7, 2023.
This continues despite a United Nations Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire.
