Gary Neville has praised Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool, calling it their “best performance” under Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils held the Premier League leaders to a hard-fought draw at Anfield, despite being on the back foot for much of the match.

Lisandro Martinez gave United the lead with a powerful strike early in the second half, but Liverpool quickly equalized through Cody Gakpo, and Mohamed Salah put them ahead from the penalty spot after Matthijs de Ligt’s handball. Amad Diallo ensured a share of the points with a late equalizer.

Neville was full of praise for the team’s resilience, noting, “It’s the best performance I think under Ruben Amorim, maybe all season by a mile.” He continued, “We were expecting the worst. No Manchester United fan woke up in the morning thinking the worst wouldn’t happen today.”

Neville highlighted the midfield trio of Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte, and Bruno Fernandes for dominating the midfield battle against Liverpool’s strong core of Curtis Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, and Alexis Mac Allister, adding that they managed to neutralize Liverpool’s usual dominance in the center of the park.

Despite the encouraging performance, United remains in the bottom half of the table, rising to 13th place on goal difference.

Bruno Fernandes, although pleased with the result, stressed the need for consistency. Reflecting on their overall struggles, he said, “We’ve been criticized fairly… even today we can’t be happy with the draw.”
