Jamie Carragher has criticized both Trent Alexander-Arnold’s camp and Real Madrid following reports of a £20 million bid for the Liverpool star last week.

While the Reds swiftly rejected the offer, Carragher suggested the bid wouldn’t have materialized without encouragement from the player or his representatives.

Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, Carragher argued, “Real Madrid are bullies. They wouldn’t put a bid in unless they had the say-so from Trent or his agent. Liverpool are going for a league title; selling Trent in January is absurd.”

Carragher believes that Liverpool’s position in the league and Alexander-Arnold’s critical role make any mid-season move unrealistic. “If you don’t want that bid to go in, you tell them ‘no.’ This noise doesn’t help Liverpool’s situation,” he added.

Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold’s performance in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United drew criticism, particularly for his role in Lisandro Martinez’s opener. Roy Keane labeled his defending “schoolboy” and jokingly suggested “he’d be better off at Tranmere Rovers.”

Manager Arne Slot, however, dismissed suggestions that Madrid’s approach had distracted the defender, blaming the United duo of Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot for exploiting Liverpool’s defensive gaps.

Gary Neville echoed Carragher’s frustrations with Madrid’s low offer, calling it “insulting.” He added, *”There’s a certain respect between big clubs. Bidding £20 million for a player of Trent’s caliber is taking the ***.”

With Alexander-Arnold’s contract set to expire in the summer, speculation about his future continues, but Carragher’s comments suggest that timing and intent are as critical as the negotiations themselves.
