King Charles emotionally moved by documentary on Queen domestic abuse advocacy
King Charles has shared that he was “reduced to tears” by a new documentary highlighting Queen Camilla’s efforts to combat domestic abuse.
The King discussed the moving ITV program at a Buckingham Palace reception celebrating the achievements of the film and television industry.
In a lighthearted exchange during the event, actor Damian Lewis, who portrays Henry VIII in Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light, joked about royal ancestry, saying to the King, “At least you can claim not to be related to him.”
This quip referenced Charles’s lineage, as he is descended from Henry VIII’s sister, Margaret Tudor, rather than the infamous king himself. The King, a fan of the show, praised Lewis’s performance, noting, “You are fantastic in it. Please give your fellow actors my regards.”
Speaking with documentary director Kerene Barefield and producer Naveed Chowdhary-Flatt, the King expressed his admiration for the program, which he previewed in Scotland. “I am very proud of it,” he said. “It reduced me to tears.”
