Lagos State uncovers warehouse storing banned styrofoam packs
The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps has uncovered a warehouse storing banned styrofoam packs in Ikeja, at No. 6 Ogusefunmi Street, off Nurudeen Street, Anifowoshe.
This discovery was made possible by a tip-off from a whistleblower. Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab confirmed the find via X, stating, “Following a tip-off by a whistleblower, Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources discovered another warehouse… The building is being used for storing the banned styrofoam packs. The operatives of the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps have confiscated the packs.”
The confiscation is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to curb environmental pollution. In January 2024, the Lagos State Government announced a ban on the use and distribution of Styrofoam and other single-use plastics due to the significant environmental harm they cause.
Styrofoam is commonly used to manufacture disposable plates in eateries across the country.
The ministry has been proactively cracking down on the illegal storage and sale of banned items across the state as it assures the government’s commitment to protecting the environment.
