“You Need Psychiatric Attention”—Nigerians lambast Sowore for berating Tinubu, Buhari, Jonathan
The Nigerian political landscape has been stirred once again, this time by controversial comments from human rights activist and politician, Omoyele Sowore.
Known for his reckless statements, Sowore has once again aimed negative words at President Bola Tinubu and former Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan, referring to them in derogatory terms.
This has elicited a wave of backlash from Nigerians, who have taken to social media and various platforms to express their disapproval.
In a post commenting on a recent security council meeting held in Abuja, Sowore wrote: “The last three catastrophic calamities that befell Nigeria in one photo. From left to right: Mr. Disaster, Muhammadu Buhari; Mr. Druggie, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed; and the Ineffectual Buffoon, Goodluck Jonathan.”
The reaction to Sowore’s comments has been swift and overwhelmingly critical, with many Nigerians calling for greater respect and decorum in public discourse.
Fortune Etim remarked, “Insulting them while you’re also aiming at that exalted position doesn’t make you any better. Who knows whether you may even be worse. Accord them some respect despite their weaknesses.”
Similarly, Ebunoluwa Olukunle Solomon said, “These are great Nigerian leaders who have tried their best to steer the movements of Nigeria forward. No matter how you look at it, they’re far better than you. Try and win a local government election first, and you will learn to respect leaders. It’s easier to criticize than to offer solutions.”
Ken Tagbo added, “How do you want to be respected when you can call a man and former president such names? You are a young man making derogatory remarks about individuals you don’t know personally but who held public office. I advise you to first contest for a Local Government Chairman position and win to showcase yourself for us to see.”
Oluwaseun O. SirModesty commented, “All this name-calling and insults will be forgotten when the federal government re-arrests this guy and jails him. Then, hypocritical sympathizers will claim he has done nothing to warrant arrest, and his lawyers will be speaking up and down. The same way Nnamdi Kanu spoke many unprintable words when he was abroad, but when nabbed, he suddenly became innocent.”
Adeyeye Emmanuel Femi stated, “Somebody should please check on Sowore; it seems like he is suffering from a hidden disease that deals negatively with his brain. If you can find him, tell him activism is different from governance. Let him try from the local area first, like a Local Government Chairman!”
Win Aigbokhai Godwin opined, “Even if you were given the opportunity to be president, you could not do better than Goodluck Jonathan. He shouldn’t be among the two backward old men.”
Brutus A. Bamiteko observed, “If you consider even Goodluck Jonathan a failure according to your statement, it suggests that no one, including you, can successfully govern Nigeria. Not even if God Himself were to run for election could Nigeria be fixed.”
Comrd Tikikus MB Makaranta concluded, “Sowore should go and contest as a local government councilor in his ward in Ondo state. He only speaks on online media where he doesn’t have to pay for rent, power, or a gateman. Attention seekers only want to cash out from protests.”
The overwhelming reactions to Sowore’s comment suggest a call for greater respect and decorum in public discourse, especially from someone who has a political ambition.
