Over 100 golfers hit Kwara for amateur Global Championship

Over one hundred golfers are expected to storm Kwara State for the maiden Emirate Global Amateur Open 2024.

The tournaments will be categorized into two; male and female categories. 124 golfers are expected in the male category, 21 golfers are expected in the female category, while 11 golfers are placed on standby due to late entry.

The event is a maiden tournament in Kwara. It will be staged on Saturday, May 10, 2024. Golfers are expected to storm Ilorin on Thursday, May 8 and Friday, May 9, 2024.

The tournament will host golfers from various states in Nigeria; including Akwa Ibom, Oyo State, Ogun States, and more. And, there will be prizes and trophies for the victorious of the event

Speaking to newsmen, Barrister Dare Akanbi, a Member of the Local Organizing Committee said a series of events have been played for the events. He highlighted the planning of a welcome party for the golfers on arrival and a cocktail party in the evening.

Barrister Akanbi further disclosed there are no age limits in the tournament, adding that categories range from one to four.

Jide Allen, the captain of Ilorin Golf Club called on Kwarans to honour the event with their massive presence. He encouraged Kwarans to show interest in the sport while highlighting the efforts of the Kwara State Golf Association to introduce the game to the young population in the state.

The veteran broadcaster dismissed claims that the game of golf is for rich men alone.

He referenced the efforts of the Kwara Golf Association, emphasizing the association is making efforts to attract younger ones from the grassroots.
