Israel launches fresh assaults on Gaza as death toll hits 31,923
Israel claimed to have killed 90 gunmen within the Al Shifa Hospital compound in Gaza City on Wednesday. The Al Shifa Hospital, the largest medical complex in the territory, currently shelters about 30,000 people, including displaced families, patients and medical staff.
The Israeli military says it made aggressive searches in Al Shifa Hospital, which is alleged to be a base for Hamas fighters, leading to the arrest of around 300 individuals, prompting continued attacks.
In another development, civilians receiving aid at the Kuwait Roundabout in northern Gaza reportedly faced gunfire early Wednesday, the latest in a series of deadly assaults on aid distribution efforts, resulting in the loss of 24 lives and dozens more sustaining injuries.
This growing list of aid workers (100) who have been killed and dozens wounded over the past week in eight attacks carried out by Israeli forces, according to the Government Media Office in Gaza.
The media office said in a statement the targeting of aid workers was part of Israel’s strategy to “perpetuate the policy of starvation and deepen famine on a broader scale”.
Meanwhile, negotiations over a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas entered their third day following a meeting between Israeli intelligence officials and Qatari mediators in Doha on Tuesday.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman while speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, said it was still too early to discuss the possibility of reaching an agreement.
So far, at least 31,923 Palestinians have been killed and 74,096 injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7. The revised death toll in Israel from Hamas’s October 7 attack stands at 1,139 with dozens taken captive, according to Al Jazeera
