Organization of Islamic Cooperation sets up watchdog to profile Israeli crimes in Gaza
The secretary-general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has announced the establishment of a media monitoring team to profile and expose Israeli crimes and violations in Gaza.
The organization promised that it will ensure that the international community has accurate information about the “Palestinian crisis,” according to Hissein Brahim Taha, who spoke at the opening of an OIC information ministers meeting in Istanbul.
Taha said the content produced by the media monitoring unit will be accessible from the OIC website.
He added that Israel is trying to conceal its atrocities in the region by silencing journalists by attacking them while covering the bloodshed in Gaza for the world to see.
The Israel-Gaza conflict has taken a severe toll on journalists since Hamas launched its unprecedented attack against Israel on October 7 and Israel declared war on the militant Palestinian group, launching violent strikes on the blockaded Gaza Strip.
A report by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJs) said as of February 24, 2024, preliminary investigations showed at least 88 journalists and media workers were among the more than 30,000 killed since the war began on October 7—with more than 29,000 Palestinian deaths in Gaza and the West Bank and 1,200 deaths in Israel.
The International Court of Justice had in a ruling called on Israel to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.
Despite this, hostilities persisted and relief deliveries remain insufficient to solve the humanitarian crisis.
