Minister summons cement manufacturers over escalating prices
The Nigeria Minister of Works, David Umahi, has summoned top cement manufacturers in the country to a meeting over the rising cost of the product.
Price cement hits the highest the country has ever seen in its history as a bag is now sold between N9,500 to N10,000 from N5,000 it was sold in the previous months.
This has triggered further agitations from Nigerians amid rising inflation that has sent the prices of goods and services up in the sky in the oil-rich West African country.
The Minister’s Special Adviser (Media), Orji Uchenna Orji, in a statement in Abuja on Saturday, expressed concerns over the rising cost of cement despite heavy patronage by road and housing contractors.
The meeting would take place on Monday, February 19, 2024, at the Ministry’s Conference Hall, Mabushi, Abuja, he said.
According to the statement, “The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has summoned an urgent meeting of all cement manufacturers in Nigeria.”
It said that those invited were Dangote Plc, BUA Plc, Larfarge, and others.
