Just in: Super Eagles, Cote d’Ivoire, Qatar record significant jumps in the latest FIFA ranking
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have seen a significant improvement in their FIFA ranking following their brilliant performances at the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations recently concluded in Cote d’Ivoire.
Nigeria came in second in the competition after losing 2-1 in the final to the hosts.
According to the February ranking published on the website of the global football body, the West African country has climbed 14 spots to 28th in the world.
This rise in ranking is reflected in their increased points tally, with the team now garnering 1,522 points compared to 1,474 points in December 2023.
Following their victory in the Africa Cup of Nations on home soil, Cote d’Ivoire also moved up the FIFA rankings by 10 spots to claim 39th place.
Meanwhile, South Africa, the third-placed team in the tournament, climbed 8 spots to reach 58th place.
Former champions Egypt (36th), Cameroon (51st), and Ghana (67th) have experienced drops in their rankings due to their early exits from the AFCON 2023 tournament.
Angola, who reached the quarterfinals, has seen the most significant improvement in the rankings, jumping 24 places to 93rd.
On the other hand, Qatar, winners of the Asian Cup, have garnered the highest number of points (92.04) and climbed 21 places to secure 37th place, following their successful defense of the continental title on home turf.
The FIFA World Cup winner, Argentina, firmly remains at the top of the ranking with 1855.20 points.
France, England, Belgium, and Brazil complete the top five.
