Osimhen escapes injury fears, returns to training with Super Eagles

The Super Eagles of Nigeria and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has returned to training following an injury scare that almost cast a doubt over his availability for the team.

The African Player of the Year award winner joined the team in Bouaké and trained with the rest of the team following an abdominal discomfort that delayed him from travelling with the squad.

Nigeria will face South Africa later on Wednesday in the semi-final tie of the ongoing TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.

The injection of the player is a boost for the Super Eagles ahead of the clash with Bafana Bafana.

So far, Osimhen has played in all five of Nigeria’s matches at the tournament, though he has not scored since scoring the equaliser in his country’s opening match against Equatorial Guinea.

The Super Eagles are hoping to win the continental title for a fourth time, having failed to reach the final since they last won in 2013

Nigeria has been tipped to lift the trophy ahead of the last-four clash on Wednesday as a number of the big names fall to shock exits.
