The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has taken a swipe at the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, over his failure to pay a condolence visit to the state following the recent explosion that wreaked havoc on the capital.

Mr Seyi Makinde disclosed this while receiving Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential flag bearer in the last general election, who paid him a condolence visit after the disaster in the state capital.

Recall that no fewer than five people died, 77 sustained varying degrees of injuries, and nearly 60 houses were affected by the blast.

While appreciating the opposition politician for his condolence visit, Makinde expressed disappointment that his fellow party man has not even called or sent a text message to sympathise with him over the incident.

Makinde said, “You (referring to Peter Obi) came here to commiserate with us over the explosion. I am particularly grateful because the President has reached out to me, you also have reached out to me but my own party candidate (Atiku), not even a call or a text message.

“I am saying this openly because our leaders should know that they need to have time for politics and humanity too.”

He told Peter Obi that the state government has launched an investigation to determine the actual cause of the incident.

“Investigations are still going on, it was an issue of illegal miners storing explosive devices in an environment where they should not be kept,” he added.
