José Peseiro: We will not underrate Angola
The Super Eagles of Nigeria’s head coach, José Peseiro, says his team will not underrate Angola, their next opponent in the ongoing TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, following their 2-0 win over the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.
Ademola Lookman delivered the classic win for the Nigerians as they overpowered their neighbours in the winner-take-all knockout round.
The result sends the African giant into a quarter-final clash with Angola, while Cameroon exit at the last 16 stage.
Speaking after the match, coach Peseiro vowed not to underestimate Angola following their brilliant outing against Namibia in the first knockout encounter on Saturday.
He added that every team in the current round is capable of winning the tournament, including Nigeria’s next rivals, Angola.
“We will now focus on our next match against Angola, which is having an excellent tournament. We must take this opponent seriously, so we will continue to sleep early and eat pasta (laughs). Jokes aside, all the teams at this stage are capable of winning the tournament.”
Also, Nigeria’s star of the moment, Ademola Lookman, said Nigeria will study Angola ahead of the next encounter, praising their brilliant performance against Namibia.
Lookman said, “Angola are a good team. We’ll analyze them and prepare. The further you go, the tougher it gets so we’ll take it game by game.”
On Friday, Nigeria will face Angola in the quarters-finals after beating Namibia 3-0 earlier on Saturday.
