Jose Peseiro tips Nigeria’s Super Eagles to reclaim Africa Cup of Nations trophy
The Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has tipped Nigeria to reclaim the Africa Cup of Nations trophy the team won last in 2013 in South Africa, while giving hints on how he has planned to bring the dream to a reality.
Coach Peseiro said his target for the team is to take the game one step after the other and later qualify from the group stage.
To achieve the dream, he said “We have to defend well when we get out of the stage group. That is a must because in the knockout round, defending is very critical and key to your progress.”
Speaking on his arsenal of strikers, Peseiro explained, “The attack we know can score goals. Even the defenders can join the attack and score but you have to defend it,” as he expressed confidence in the likes of Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface, Kelechi Iheanacho among others.
He added, “When you have your defence not conceding goals, the confidence in the team flows even to the attack and the result is always good for the team, particularly for a tournament you want to win.”
The 2023 AFCON, which will be decided in Ivory Coast, will run from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
The Super Eagles are drawn in Group A with hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau.
