Just in: English FA fines Man City over player conduct in Spurs draw
The Football Association fined Manchester City 120,000 pounds ($151,740) after their players swarmed a match official during their thrilling 3-3 draw against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League earlier this month.
Several City players confronted referee Simon Hooper late in the game on December 3 when he stopped play as Jack Grealish went through on goal for a foul on Erling Haaland in the build-up after previously waving play-on.
“Manchester City FC admitted that they failed to ensure their players did not behave in an improper way during the 94th minute. An independent Regulatory Commission imposed this sanction following a hearing,” the FA said on Monday.
The club has yet to respond to the fine. The club opens their FIFA Club World Cup campaign on Tuesday when they face Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The Champions League winners are seeking to win what would be a fifth major trophy of the calendar year following last season’s historic Treble and August’s capture of the UEFA Super Cup.
It’s the first time City have taken part in the FIFA Club World Cup.
