Coach Peseiro speaks on Nigeria’s 2023 AFCON chances
Nigeria’s Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro says the former continental champions have what it takes to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Super Eagles are among the title contenders when rivalries start in Cote d’Ivoire in January.
Speaking on the chances of his sides to win the most prestigious international competition in Africa, coach Peseiro said his team side must stand tall in their performances to come out victiruous in the group stage.
“Getting through the group stage is the minimum objective. We are in a group with Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau and Ivory Coast, the host nation,” the 63-year-old told Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport
“It is not possible to make a mistake. And then we are not the only ones among the favourites: Tunisia, Morocco, Senegal, Cameroon, Ivory Coast.
Nigeria will face Equatorial Guinea in their first tie in the 2023 AFCON finals at the Alhassan Quattara Stadium in Ebimpe on January 14.
Four days later, they play the hosts Cote d’Ivoire at the same venue.
The Eagles will round up their campaign against Guinea-Bissau on January 22.
Taiwo Awoniyi, one of Nigeria’s best forward has been ruled out due to injury.
