Premier League: Mikel Arteta rates Arsenal’s performance thus far
The head coach of Arsenal, Mikel Arteta has expressed satisfaction with his team in the ongoing Premier League campaign despite concerns in some quarters that the Gunners lack the needed spark to win the title.
The Gunners are leading the Premier League table with one point and are into the last 16 of the Champions League after they white-washed Lens 6-0 on Wednesday.
Despite the victory against the French sides which came with many balls in the net, Arsenal have struggled to score more goals in their previous encounters.
The London club managed to win four out of their nine Premier League matches by a 1-0 margin, including last weekend’s at Brentford.
Speaking on how the team has performed this season, the Spanish tactician said, “this team is going to be different to last season and hopefully very different to next season.”
“That’s part of the evolution. Leaving some of the things in the past to the new things. That has a transition.
“We want to still be competitive and win matches and I think the team is competing really well.”
Commenting on the use of VAR, he said “I think we can improve it and we are trying to do that,” Arteta added.
“Technology is taking a huge responsibility in games and it needs time.
“If we use it the right way – we are listening to people, we are open, we are humble and we are trying to be constructive – I think we will get to a really, really good place.”
Arsenal will hope to tame Wolverhampton Wanderers later on Saturday in a match that will be decided at the Emirates stadium.
The visiting sides currently have 15 points after 13 matches played in the ongoing season.
