Indonesia tackles Israel after alleged hospital air strike

Indonesia’s Foreign Minister, Retno Marsudi has lambasted the Israeli government over its forces’ alleged strike on the Indonesian hospital in northern Gaza.

The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza disclosed on Monday that 12 people were killed at the site. Israeli tanks were later seen entering the area in a video verified by the BBC.

“The attack is a clear violation of international humanitarian laws,” Marsudi said.

“All countries, especially those that have close relations with Israel, must use all their influence and capabilities to urge Israel to stop its atrocities.”

The Asian country set up the hospital in 2016 with funding from Indonesian organisations.

The Israeli military has not commented on the incident at the hospital but says it’s targeting “terrorists” and “terrorist infrastructure” in the Gaza Strip in its retaliatory strikes on the besieged enclave.

In the meantime, Qatar, which has been leading the move to broker a deal, says only “very minor” obstacles remain to Israeli hostages being released.

So far, 13,000 people have been killed in the territory since Israel began its offensives in Gaza.

Israel has been pounding Gaza after Hamas fighters crossed the border on October 7, killing 1,200 Israelis and taking more than 200 hostage.
